What To Pay When You Can't Pay Everything

Good morning!

Our friend I mentioned in last week's newsletter - the one who's been fighting a brain tumor for the past 4 years - passed away on Saturday.   We have another friend, a fire chief, who's battling Stage 4 melanoma.  I have another good friend who's still undergoing chemo after mastectomy, and a cousin who is now cancer free after a full mastectomy.  It makes you want to re-think being my friend, doesn't it?

Gosh, back when our grandparents were kids, they just never heard of cancer.  What makes it so prevalent today?   Scientists are linking it to the chemicals we're exposed to.  I read recently that about 90% of the food we eat is processed.  Even if you can find organic produce, it's tough to find meat that isn't dyed to look pink, or beef without growth hormones, or chicken that hasn't been injected with stuff to make it look more plump.  On top of eating things that you can't pronounce, we buy toxic products and bring them into our homes.  Plug in air fresheners are one of the most toxic products in our homes, and yet if I took a survey, I'll bet 99% of those of you reading this have one burning right now!

If this is something that concerns you, watch this.  You might be surprised!  http://t2sweb.com/Movies/toxic_brew_movie.html

I am grateful for all of the blessings in my life, and I appreciate you!  Please forward this issue to someone who may benefit from it!

A 15-year study revealed that women who work at home have a 54% higher death rate from cancer than women who work outside the home. This has been directly linked to the high concentration of harsh chemicals in the home.

Developing a Positive Attitude through Declarations
by Randall Stewart

People who have great, positive attitudes believe in themselves. They are able to focus on opportunities not obstacles, and are persistent in finding solutions to challenges. In order to develop a more positive attitude, one needs to start by having an open mind to change. You must be willing to step outside of your comfort zone for awhile in order to grow. How could anyone expect to create positive change in his or her life if they keep doing the same non-supportive behavior over and over again? This is a perfect example of insanity at work.

Life is all about choices, whether they be good or bad. Now is the time to take full responsibility for your thoughts and behavior; stop making excuses or justifying your actions. If you truly desire transforming your life for the better, then you must give yourself permission to attract more abundance, prosperity and joy into your life. Developing positive, supportive habits through declarations will dramatically change your lifestyle and move you closer to achieving your dreams and being more successful in all aspects of your life.

Declarations are one tool that you can use to change your non-supporting, limiting beliefs and improve your attitude. Simply put, a declaration is a verbal statement of intention to either be or do something. To be the most effective, a declaration needs to be a positive affirmation stated aloud in a formal manner with physical actions. The more senses that you can engage in the process, the easier it will be to create permanent, positive change. As silly as this may sound, stand in front of a mirror to jest and smile as you make your declarations. Have some fun changing your mindset.

To experience true success, in all of its senses, you need a rich, meaningful, balance between your spiritual life, your relationships with family, friends and colleagues, your understanding of the world around you, your physical and mental health, and your finances and career. It is obvious that in order to achieve greater success in all aspects of your life you need to develop a list of declarations that will address each fundamental area. The following twelve declarations are designed to not only help you reach your full potential, but also to add value to other people's lives. They enable you to pursue your higher purpose in life of making a positive difference in this world through your unique talents, skills and gifts.

1. I am richly blessed every day since my life purpose is aligned with God's higher purpose for me.

2. I deserve to have more abundance and prosperity in my life because I add value to other's lives.

3. I am truly grateful for all of the people, experiences and opportunities that have come into my life.

4. My legacy is my unconditional love for others.

5. I spend quality time and use effective communication in nurturing my core relationships.

6. I attract the ideal people into my life who support my efforts.

7. I am open to constantly learning and improving my mental capacity.

8. My healthy lifestyle gives me optimal physical well-being.

9. My total success attitude guides my actions to produce the results that allow me to reach my full potential.

10. I choose to create the beliefs and attitudes that support my dreams.

11. My multiple streams of income allow me to be financially free.

12. I constantly seek lucrative opportunities to leverage both my time and money.

Practice these declarations twice a day, preferably once in the morning and once at night, for the next couple of months. You will be amazed at how effective this technique is in transforming your beliefs and attitudes.

As a final note, live your life to the fullest in joy and gratitude one day at a time. Focus on the present and what you can change for the better in the moment. Keep in mind that life should be fun. Here's to your on-going success.

Ron Paul on Amnesty for Illegal Aliens
by Representative Ron Paul (R-Texas)

June 11, 2007

Although action in the United States Senate this week has slowed passage of the amnesty bill, it is not yet dead as President Bush remains committed to this approach. That is why the President recently suggested that those of us who oppose amnesty for illegal immigrants are unpatriotic. Those of us who strongly oppose the new immigration reform bill before the Senate "don't want to do what's right for America ," the president said. I reject that assessment as unfair and inaccurate.

Supporters of the amnesty bill like to claim that border protection is their first priority. But if enforcement of our borders is the highest priority, certainly a much shorter bill could have been written. Even better, why not enforce existing laws? According to our Constitution, Congress makes the laws that the executive branch is to enforce. The rush to pass this new law seems to obfuscate this simple fact. There are plenty of laws already in place, so it seems sensible to largely solve this problem without new laws.

To make matters worse, as I wrote in a recent column, some 120 of our best trained border guards are going to be sent to Iraq to help them with border enforcement! In addition, National Guard troops participating in Operation Jump Start on the Mexican border are scheduled to also be sent to Iraq and Afghanistan .

This legislation purports to crack down hard at our borders, but as we have learned time and time again, you cannot address enforcement until you address incentives. That is why you cannot have border security with an amnesty program in place: the incentive of amnesty undermines any crack-down on border protection and in fact just makes work for our Border Patrol all the more difficult. Incentives in place to those who would come to the United States illegally will remain in place if this legislation is passed. Illegal immigrants will still receive federal assistance and free medical care and their children will still gain automatic citizenship after this bill is passed. We need to face the fact that securing our borders means more than legislation, or fences, or even more Border Patrol. It means removing incentives for people to come to the US illegally in the first place. That is why I will once again introduce an amendment to the Constitution to end birthright citizenship this coming week.

Although the "reform" of immigration in the amnesty bill is enough to cause alarm, other highly troubling provisions are tucked away that will serve to undermine our sovereignty and weaken our civil liberties. According to the most recent version of the Senate bill, the misnamed Security and Prosperity Partnership for North America is to be "accelerated." It seems ironic that a project aiming to actually weaken US borders with Mexico and Canada would be added into a bill that purports to toughen border controls.

Also, this bill will bring us closer to a national ID card, which without a doubt runs counter to American values and history and will punish American citizens without doing much to counter those who would come here illegally.

I strongly disagree with the president that opposing this legislation is unpatriotic. I believe we have an obligation to reject any legislation that promises amnesty to those here illegally, and that undermines the sovereignty and privacy of American citizens.

Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas) is the leading advocate for freedom in our nation’s capital. As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Dr. Paul tirelessly works for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies. He is known among his congressional colleagues and his constituents for his consistent voting record. Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution. In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Dr. Paul is the "one exception to the Gang of 535" on Capitol Hill. Moms:  The Ultimate Parenting Experts
by Rory Murray

We've all faced difficult decisions as parents. Some of us seek help discerning our choices and some of us struggle alone. We can't be perfect, all knowing parents -- it's impossible. And, we can't always rely on past experience to inform our current decisions because, let's face it, we most likely have never traveled this road before. Sure we can pick up a parenting book but wading through all those expert-driven options to find the answer we are looking for can take scrupulous screening and way too much time. What we want is tried and true parenting advice and answers and we want it quickly.

Our mothers, while their lives weren't always rosy, were at least able to walk next door and find a neighbor at home to ask: "What on earth should I do to get the gum out of Sally's hair?" or "Did your baby spit up ALL day long and is that normal?" Moms knew then, as did their own mothers, that the best advice usually comes from other moms. A more experienced mom has probably been in our situation and can guide us through the dilemma -- with practical solutions and wisdom. Often, just getting another point of view can be what's needed to sort through the options.

Our lives have gotten so busy that most of us don't have time to chat over the backyard fence or sip coffee and compare notes on potty training tips. Our problems have changed from our mother's generation: "How do you get John off of video games?" or "Did you find SAT tutoring to really boost Mary's score?" or "Which car seat really holds up a newborn's head?" With those changes has come a cynical view of advice. "Is this really the best car seat I'm reading about in xyz Magazine or are they trying to sell me something?" Mom's tell it like it is.

Here are the top tips for finding answers to your parenting questions from the real experts, other moms:

-GET SPECIFIC
Clearly articulate your problem or dilemma before communicating it to another mom. Once you hone in on what it is you want to know, you are half way there. Often, just writing down your question can begin to help you gain awareness about the answer. "How can I get my 4-year old to stop whining?" might be what you think you want to ask. "How can I get my 4-year old to stop whining every time he doesn't get what he wants" sheds even more light on the situation.

-GET BRAVE AND BOLD
You will not be judged for being inadequate by revealing that you don't have all the answers or your kids are not perfect. In fact, by asking another mom for her wisdom on a situation you give her permission to ask you when she has a problem. You also show that you are completely normal. Rather than a weakness, looking for help indicates a savvy mom who knows where to turn.

-GET ONLINE
Head online and ask your questions. The benefits of technology are that answers are quick to circle back to you. A new social networking site for moms, MomJunction.com, offers a technology called RIPPLE that enables moms to forward your question to all their various groups who can then forward to their groups and you get many responses to your question.

-GET REAL
Take all advice you receive and screen it through your gut feelings. Does this "feel right?" If so, give it a try. One mom posted on MomJunction.com "The biggest parenting mistake I've made is letting someone else convince me other than my instincts indicated."

What To Pay When You Can't Pay Everything
by:  Terry Rigg

With ever increasing consumer debt more of us are finding
ourselves robbing Peter to pay Paul each month.

We go through our bills and find that the money just won't
stretch far enough to cover all of the bills and expenses. It's
hard to decide who you should pay when you have one bill that is
stamped with "Final Notice" and you are behind on several of
your other bills.

If you don't pay the credit cards you know that you are going
to start getting those harassing phone calls. If you don't pay
the house payment you are looking at foreclosure. If you don't
pay the utilities they will shut them off. How do you decide?

When you get to this point it's time to get down to basic
survival and work from there.

I have actually talked to people that stated their credit cards
were up to date but their mortgage was two months behind. This
is one of the biggest mistakes we can make when we don't have
the money to pay everything.

Another mistake I see on a regular basis is that some people
pay their bills at the expense of their food budget.

If you have the money to pay some of your bills, you have to
start with groceries first and necessary health items. You can
try to save as much as possible on your food but that money has
to be set aside before anything else.

The next bill you must pay is your mortgage or rent. While
credit cards companies will drag out their collection process,
mortgage companies and landlords will start the process of
foreclosure or eviction within just a couple of months.

Your next priority is your utilities. In many cases utility
companies will turn off your utilities if the bill isn't paid
within a few days of receiving the bill.

Once you are sure you have enough to eat and a roof over your
head you can start thinking about your other bills. The secured
loans, like your car payment, should come before your unsecured
loans, like your credit cards.

The reason for this is simple. Creditors that have secured
property will sue or repossess much quicker than the credit card
companies.

If you find yourself in this situation it is a sign that you
need to do something drastic and fast. By not paying all of your
bills each month they are going to add up quickly and you are
going to accumulate a lot of late fees.

The best place to start is to find out exactly where you stand
and what is causing the problem. This is as simple as listing
your income on one side of a piece of paper and your bills on
the other. Total each and subtract your bills from your income.

Your next step is to develop a budget. You can find a free and
simple budget by visiting The Complete Budget and Bill Organizer
at http://www.homemoneyhelp.com/BBOonline.html

Whether you use my budget system or another it is very
important that you start one as soon as possible. For those of
you that believe a budget is to restrictive, just the opposite
is true. The only way you can get what you want and know you can
afford it is to have a budget in place.

It is important that you pay all of your bills on time each
month. When you don't have the money to pay everything it is
vital to your survival that you pay the most important bills
first.
